THE BEST DIVE OF YOUR LIVE A huge variety of extraordinary dive sites line Belize's coast. The most famous, the Great Blue Hole, is considered the holy grail of dives. An almost perfectly circular sinkhole 1000 feet wide and over 400 feet deep, it's the world's largest, treating adventurous divers to spectacular views of underwater stalactites, stalagmites and columns that date from the last ice age.
And there are so many more adventures to be had. From Tureffe Island and Glovers Reef atolls to the many famous cayes and of course, the largely unexplored and still pristine barrier reef, there are hundreds of phenomenal dive sites to explore, each as distinct as it is outstanding. From gradually sloping ocean floors to astonishing 2,000-foot sheer walls where the ever-changing underwater flora and fauna never cease to enchant, divers can spend weeks in Belize and still see something new each day.
Space exploration has long been a fascination of man – to travel to the stars, investigate strange new worlds, and to encounter exotic life forms. What's interesting about that is the fact that there is still so much of our own planet we still have yet to explore, and the wonder still waiting to be discovered.
Perhaps there is no place so unique, no environment so "alien” to us, than that which is found in the ocean. With its brightly coloured and oddly formed marine life, coral and sea cucumbers, gorgeous underwater sand reefs, scuba diving is like visiting and underwater zoo and amusement park all at once!
Life can get very busy and when the chance for vacation comes along it is important to make the most of it; fill it with fun, adventure, and excitement. Scuba diving opens up a whole new world for you filled with amazement and wonder which can make you feel like you've been transported to some mystical far-away place.
What is Scuba Diving
Many of us remember snorkeling as kids, and scuba diving is really just a more advanced version of that. Using a breathing apparatus which fits in the mouth, and usually an air tank which is affixed to the back of the diver, oxygen is transferred via a tube into a mouthpiece allowing you to breathe underwater. Since the unit is self-contained the diver is in fact free to swim along whatever path they wish. Many people add a body suit to their gear, although that may not be necessary. Rubber "fins” are worn on the feet to allow one to propel themselves as easily as a fish glides through the water. They are also useful as they create less of a disturbance than your feet would, helping you blend in as simply another strange looking creature among other strange looking creatures.
This type of undersea exploration is not only exciting and invigorating, but also has a naturally calming effect on the body. Being surrounded by water is very soothing, and is actually a comfortable way for those with mobility issues to move around. It is quite quiet underwater as well, allowing people to be at one with their thoughts while scouring the ocean floor.
Appreciating Natural Splendor
One of the best parts of scuba diving is becoming one with all the ocean creatures. It is a truly unique experience to have the opportunity of taking in their radiance, how oddly they seem to be made which in turn is how they survive, and appreciating the natural marvels that go on in our world. It gives one a real sense of belonging to the world while at the same time reminding us that we too are just a part of it and not the masters we sometimes think ourselves to be. Even when diving with a group of people, this is a solitary experience which is not only some of the most fun you've ever had, but also a wonderful time to get to know yourself.
